Training Philosophy

Shannon believes that the strongest results come from building trust through positive reinforcement, clear communication, and consistent guidance. She focuses on creating an encouraging learning environment where dogs feel safe, motivated, and eager to succeed. By rewarding desired behaviors with praise, toys, treats, and meaningful engagement, Shannon helps dogs develop confidence while strengthening the bond they share with their owners. She believes every dog is unique and deserves a training approach that brings out their full potential in a positive and compassionate way.

Inspiration

Shannon’s journey into dog training began with a rescue dog named Downey, a Pit Bull/Rottweiler mix she adopted from the Downey Animal Shelter. Having survived a difficult past as a bait dog, Downey faced significant physical and emotional challenges that required patience, understanding, and rehabilitation. When professional training fell short of meeting his needs, Shannon took it upon herself to learn how to help him. That life-changing experience ignited a passion for canine behavior and rehabilitation that ultimately became her career.

Professional Experience

Shannon is a certified dog trainer through K-Companions and has continued to expand her education through Doggonitt Obedience. Her training experience spans a wide range of disciplines, including on- and off-leash obedience, behavior modification, Level I protection, bite work, search and rescue, and drug detection. Over the years, she has worked with dogs of all breeds, ages, and temperaments, helping them build confidence, develop reliable obedience, and strengthen their relationships with their owners through practical, real-world training.

Training Focus

Shannon has a particular passion for behavior modification and helping dogs overcome fear, anxiety, and other behavioral challenges. She also enjoys developing strong obedience skills both on and off leash, creating confident, reliable companions that can succeed in everyday environments. Her diverse background in working dog disciplines gives her a well-rounded understanding of canine behavior, allowing her to tailor each training program to the individual dog and family's goals.
